Abstract

This Portfolio has three parts.

Part One: A systematic literature review in which available research relating to the effect facial disfigurement has on an individual’s self-concept is reviewed.

Part Two: A qualitative empirical paper, exploring the effect of facial reconstructive surgery on an individual’s self-concept. Individuals who had undergone orthognathic surgery were interviewed and an inductive thematic approach was taken for analysis.

Part Three: Appendices for parts one and two, within which a reflective statement and an epistemological statement are included.
