Non-aqueous foams in lubricating oil systems (2010)
Journal Article
Binks, B., Davies, C., Fletcher, P., & Sharp, E. (2010). Non-aqueous foams in lubricating oil systems. Colloids and surfaces. A, Physicochemical and engineering aspects, 360(1-3), 198-204. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.colsurfa.2010.02.028

We have investigated the foaming properties of mixtures of a hydrocarbon oil solvent with various low molar mass, polymeric and overbased detergent particle additives used in lubricating oils. Foam formation occurs only when the additive concentratio... Read More about Non-aqueous foams in lubricating oil systems.

UV polymerisation of surfactants adsorbed at the nematic liquid crystal-water interface produces an optical response (2009)
Journal Article
Fletcher, P. D. I., Kang, N., & Paunov, V. N. (2009). UV polymerisation of surfactants adsorbed at the nematic liquid crystal-water interface produces an optical response. Chemphyschem, 10(17), 3046-3053. https://doi.org/10.1002/cphc.200900405

We have investigated the changes in crossed polariser optical textures produced by adsorption and UV polymerisation of a range of polymerisable surfactants at the interface between a nematic liquid crystal and water. Similar to non-polymerisable surf... Read More about UV polymerisation of surfactants adsorbed at the nematic liquid crystal-water interface produces an optical response.

Synthesis of macroporous silica from solid-stabilised emulsion templates (2008)
Journal Article
Aranberri, I., Binks, B. P., Clint, J. H., & Fletcher, P. D. I. (2009). Synthesis of macroporous silica from solid-stabilised emulsion templates. Journal of Porous Materials, 16(4), 429-437. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10934-008-9215-x

We have investigated the microstructures of the solid residue left behind after the evaporation of solid-stabilised emulsions. The correlation between the microstructure and the properties and preparation conditions of the emulsions will be thoroughl... Novel film-calliper method of measuring the contact angle of colloidal particles at liquid interfaces (2007)
Journal Article
Fletcher, P. D., Binks, B. P., Horozov, T. S., Braz, D. A., & Clint, J. H. (2008). Novel film-calliper method of measuring the contact angle of colloidal particles at liquid interfaces. Langmuir : the ACS journal of surfaces and colloids, 24(5), 1678-1681. https://doi.org/10.1021/la703414q

A simple and reliable film-calliper method of measuring the particle contact angle at the water-air (oil) interface in real time has been developed. Its applicability to submicrometer and micrometer latex and silica particles is demonstrated.
