Lecturer in Medieval History

Biography James completed a PhD at the University of Sheffield in 2017 where he also gained an MA in Medieval History in 2012. He previously completed a BA in History (2004) and an MA in Applied Linguistics (2005) at the University of Sussex.

Before coming to Hull he taught in the University of Sheffield History Department and the University of Nottingham School of English.

James is a historian and linguist whose research focuses on language and social history of the medieval period from 700 to 1300, with a particular focus on personal names and naming patterns.
