Biography | Antonio is a multiple award-winning entrepreneurship academic. He is currently Hull University Knowledge exchange and Careers Lead (where he runs the Business School’s placement degree provision). Dr Malfense Fierro's commentary and insight pieces on entrepreneurship and African entrepreneurship in particular, have been published in the Conversation, CNN Edition and World Economic Forum (amongst others). Antonio won the Inspired in Hull Awards 2022 for the most outstanding contribution to developing the scholarship of Learning and Teaching. This award recognised Antonio’s role in developing entrepreneurship as a subject area at Hull University Business School. “Antonio’s involvement of entrepreneurs at every level of the programme is a significant pedagogical innovation at Hull.” “His work in developing the entrepreneurship field at Hull University Business School has empowered countless students.” At Hull University Business School, Antonio was the sole Lead of the school's Small Business Charter Application (2020-21), where he drove a team that lead to Hull University Business School being awarded a five-year accreditation, at its first attempt (Dec21). Activities leading to this achievement resulted in his nomination and shortlisting in the Universities Annual Knowledge Exchange Awards for best external KE initiative. In 2022 Antonio was nominated in the inspired in Hull awards (which merged with the employee excellence awards) in three categories: External Community Engagement category; Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and Innovation and Impact. In 2020 and 2021 the Inspired in Hull awards and nominations were not run. In the inspired in Hull teaching awards 2019 run by the student union Antonio was nominated for Innovative Teaching and Admin and Support award. In 2018 he was nominated for best module Starting a New Business. In 2018 he was shortlisted for excellence in teaching in the Employee Excellence Awards for his introduction of a novel Ed Tech platform in entrepreneurship classes. He won the Hull university student union inspiring teaching award in 2017. In 2013, he was a visiting researcher at Makerere University Business School in Uganda and joined Hull University Business School in the same year. While undertaking his PhD at the University of Edinburgh Business School, Antonio became the first Chazen Visiting Scholar in Entrepreneurship at the Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Centre at Columbia Business School in New York in 2010-2011. In 2010 Antonio was selected as one of the 100 global ‘Young Leaders of Tomorrow' at the St Gallen Symposium, Switzerland in 2010. |
