Abstract

2-Amino-3,5-dibromobenzaldehyde [3,5-Br2-2-H2NC 6CHO] undergoes a self-condensation reaction in the presence of o- or m-anthranilic acid, affording the novel ligand systems [o- or m-(HO 2C)C6H4(μ3-N)L] (L = [3,5-Br 2-HNC6H2-CH]2). Further interaction with [Cp*WCl4] in refluxing toluene affords the tungsten(V) complexes [Cp*WCl3(η2-O2C)C 6H4(μ3-N)L], the X-ray crystal structures of which show pseudooctahedral tungsten centers with the chelating syn carboxylate group of the new ligand system and a mer arrangement of chlorine atoms forming the base and an η5- (for 1·MeCN) or slipped, η3- (for 2·3MeCN) C5Me5 ligand at the apex. © 2007 American Chemical Society.
