Abstract

Financial portfolio theory suggests that diversifying through establishing a group of businesses may be an important mechanism to manage and spread risk, but empirical entrepreneurship research on portfolio entrepreneurship has failed to adequately identify how this relates to entrepreneurs’ actual behaviour.
This chapter evaluates the current literature and suggest a future research agenda for exploring the interplay or risk and portfolio entrepreneurship.
