Jon has more than 30 years’ experience working in HIFI in areas including fish ecology and fisheries management, alongside his academic role as a Senior Lecturer. His research work includes rehabilitation techniques for freshwater fisheries, environmental impact assessment, impacts of flow regulation on fisheries, stock assessment techniques, and conservation of fresh waters for fish and other wildlife. Jon is a keen advocate of Knowledge Exchange and works with Yorkshire Water, Environment Agency and UK Conservation Agencies to address contemporary issues in fisheries in the UK.

Formerly admissions tutor for the Biology department and programme leader of four degree programmes, Jon is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and places student learning at the centre of his role linking his research activities to teaching delivery. Jon is also a University of Hull Academic Contact for Bishop Burton and Barnsley colleges supporting collaborative provision between the University and these colleges.

Jon is leader of the Level 6 module Aquatic Resource Management and contributes to modules on Ecological Monitoring, Fish Ecology, Ecosystems Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment and Final Year Projects.
