Biography | Catherine joined the University of Hull in 2016 as a Teaching Enhancement Advisor focussing on postgraduate teaching development. Her primary role is developing and delivering teaching and learning support for GTAs and those new to teaching. She designed and is Module Lead for the Professional Practice in T&L in HE module (accredited at AFHEA) which forms part of the Postgraduate Training Scheme and also leads the Passport to University Teaching programme. She provides support for early career academics through contributions to PCAP and is lead for AFHEA and FHEA on the DARTE scheme. She is lead for the Teaching Essentials site, is on the organising group for the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference and contributes to other projects and programmes within the Academy. Catherine has many years’ experience in higher education, specialising in development for researchers, early-career academics and professional services staff. Prior to joining the University of Hull she worked in Researcher Development in the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, designing and running programmes for Research Staff and PGRs. She spent seven years as Executive Officer (Professional Development) at the AUA, where she ran the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (Higher Education Administration and Management), worked on the national CPD Framework project and designed, delivered and coordinated national professional development initiatives and events. Former roles at the University of Manchester focussed on postgraduate studies and research, in both academic departments and at a cross-institution research centre. Catherine is currently a doctoral candidate at Lancaster University under the supervision of Professor Paul Ashwin, looking at the development of teaching self-efficacy in GTAs. In 2016 she became a Senior Fellow of the HEA. She holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Leicester and an MA in Online and Distance Education from the Open University. She is a trained coach and mentor, and has diplomas in both NLP and Student Support and Guidance. |
