Mrs Amanda Evans
Biography | Prior to commencing a post as a Lecturer of Social Work at the University of Hull, Amanda has worked in social work with adults for the last eight years, supporting people in their homes and in community settings; Asylum Seekers to access services; and engaging with the Roma and Traveller Community. She has worked in statutory services, a fast-paced hospital setting, assessing people for support packages when leaving hospital, supporting palliative care patients to return home, and supervising staff within the hospital social work team. Amanda’s responsibilities have included multidisciplinary discharge planning alongside discharge liaison officers, nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. She has also supported individuals within a primary care mental health setting, supporting those people with mental health issues to access community services and reduce the need for crisis intervention. She has completed short-term interventions in anxiety management and sleep hygiene. A confident advocate for the rights of adults who require social care support, Amanda is adept at supporting students to demonstrate best practice when working with individuals from a range of backgrounds, whilst embedding social work values and ethics considerations. Her extensive knowledge of statutory and private, voluntary and independent sectors and close connections to the local authority inform her teaching and facilitate positive engagement with both partnering agencies and students. Her experience working in practice in a hospital setting during the COVID-19 pandemic has developed her understanding of the stresses that social workers faced, and she is able to impress on students the complexities within adult social care and how to reflect on these experiences to build on practice in the future. Amanda’s practice educator background allows for an understanding of the journey students experience on placement, supporting our apprentices, practice educators-in-training, and mentors to navigate complex placement experiences and look for positive outcomes. Committed to the student experience, Amanda applies her knowledge and experience to support students with pastoral issues as part of her personal supervisor role, to ensure that our apprentices get full benefit from their programme. |
