University of Hull Research Repository: Takedown Policy

Anyone can submit a request for an output file and/or bibliographic record to be withdrawn from the University of Hull Research Repository by contacting repository@hull.ac.uk. You should provide the details of the output concerned, the reason(s) for requesting withdrawal, and your own stake in the outcome (as author, rights-holder, or a third party).

Reasons for withdrawal include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • The output has been retracted by the publisher.
  • An unpublished output plagiarises another work or contains false information.
  • The file has been made openly accessible in contravention of the agreement to publish or the rights-holder's terms.
  • The file contains material which infringes copyright, breaches data protection law or contributes to a legally defined offence in some other way.

Library staff with responsibility for the Repository will make an initial assessment of any withdrawal request. If deemed reasonable, the file and/or record (as requested) will be withdrawn from the Repository, pending further investigation.

The details and validity of the claim will then be thoroughly investigated by Library staff, in conjunction with the author, their faculty and/or the Research Office, as necessary. Any permanent withdrawal of items by repository staff will be accompanied by a notice of withdrawal to the author, with the reason for such withdrawal.

If the claim is found to be invalid, or only partly substantiated, the record and/or file will be restored to the Repository as soon as possible, with any appropriate amendments to the content or licence terms. If the claim is found to be valid, one of the following courses of action will be applied:

  • The record details and/or file will be restricted to system administrators only.
  • The record details and/or file will be entirely deleted from the system.

The University of Hull reserves the right to determine whether a particular case requires the record and deleted.
