Introduction The Eurasian Beaver, Castor fiber (Fig.1 and Front Cover), is the largest European rodent species and is strongly associated with riparian habitats. Their tree felling, dam and lodge building, and channel-digging activities make them ecosystem engineers. They provide a range of ecosystem services, attenuating peak water flow, increasing lateral connectivity in watersheds, and increasing habitat complexity and biodiversity (Brazier 2021) (Figs.2&3, p82).
