Dr MuhammadBasheer Ismail

Biography Dr Ismail, who joined the University of Hull as a law lecturer in 2016, has widely practiced law in all levels of courts from magistrates' courts through to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

After successfully completing the Bar Examination, he was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1992.

Dr Ismail completed his PhD at the University of Hull in 2013. He has also studied at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria (LLM, 2003), Nigerian Law School (Barrister at Law, 1992) and Bayero University, Nigeria (LLB, 1991).
Research Interests Public International Law, (particularly: International Diplomatic and Consular Law, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights and Law of Terrorism), Islamic law in Muslim States, particularly its interaction with Public International Law. I have recently completed a research entitled: “Jihad Misplaced for Terrorism: An Overview of the Boko Haram Crisis from Islamic and International Humanitarian Law Perspectives”, which is to be published as a chapter in a book titled International Conflict and Security Law. I am now working on a research entitled: “Child Girl Marriage in Northern Nigeria: The Question of Congruency between International Human Rights and Islamic Law.”
