Igniting Trust in Organ Donation

Description On 3 July, a multidisciplinary sandpit event was held at the University of Hull’s Aura Innovation Centre. This was a facilitated event, looking at the topic of improving education and awareness around organ donation to try to address the current shortfall in organ donors in the UK. This collaborative innovation process brought together academics, professionals, charities and social sector organisations to work jointly on this important challenge, and resulted in an exciting range of tangible projects that will be taken forward as joint initiatives by the sandpit participants.

Bridging the Tech Industry and Knowledge Divide with Artificial Intelligence

Description The event is a groundbreaking initiative called the Borderless Afro-Caribbean University Network (BACUN) took flight, piloting its mission to bridge the gap between the tech industry and education with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Organized by Adanian Labs UK Michael Ekpechue, Sponsored by Adanian Labs Africa Blockchain Center AICE Africa University of Hull and Nigerian Student Society Hul the event aimed to empower minority students with tech and AI skills, fostering a community of resilient experts for the future. The event kicked off with insightful discussions on diversity and inclusion in tech, AI in education, and ethical data usage. Speakers like Temitayo Fagbola Niaz Chowdhury, PhD, and OLALEKAN AKINDELE shed light on how AI can break barriers and empower learning for all. Practical demonstrations by Nafis Alam showcased AI's real-world applications, while discussions on digital literacy by Itunuoluwa Abidoye highlighted the importance of navigating the informative age. Also, Oyinkansola Onwuchekwa a PhD student, emphasized ethical data usage and maximization for societal advancement. The event's success was evident in its engagement with students, and industry leaders fostering collaboration and sparking interest in AI education. With about 30 online registrations for the event and a turnout of 35-plus attendees, BACUN garnered positive feedback, paving the way for future growth and development. Through partnerships and the establishment of BACUN chapters, the initiative aims to continue its mission of empowering minority communities, fostering talent development, and creating a supportive ecosystem for tech innovation.
