Biography Saraswati is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Energy and Environmental Institute, University of Hull, specialising in flood modelling, sediment transport, and river morphology changes caused by both natural processes and human activities. In her current role on the NERC-funded PAMANA project, she assesses the long-term integrity of tailings dams in the dynamic tropical landscapes of the Philippines.

During her PhD at the University of Edinburgh (2020–2024), Dr Thapa focused on sediment transport and flooding in Himalayan rivers and published her findings in peer-reviewed journals. She also contributed to flood risk research in urban environments as part of the Tomorrow’s Cities Project and analysed cost-effective urban flood solutions such as green infrastructures as an Advanced Earth Fellow at Edinburgh Earth Initiative.

Previously, she held key roles as Deputy Chief at the Institute of Engineering Consultancy Services, Assistant Professor at Tribhuvan University. She has experience of teaching various water resources related subjects like Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Hydrology and Time Series Analysis to undergraduates and supervising students' projects. She also worked as Research Fellow at the University of Yamanashi. Dr Thapa holds an MSc in Water Resources Engineering and a BEng in Civil Engineering from Tribhuvan University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Planning from Erasmus University.
Research Interests Flood, sediment transport, and river morphodynamics driven by both natural processes and anthropogenic activities, including its cascading disasters, particularly using numerical modelling.
