Mrs Jayne Walker
Biography | Jayne is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as an Adult Nurse, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN), and Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber (V100). She began her career in 1996 as a registered Adult Nurse, moving into Midwifery in 1999. In 2005, she became a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) and qualified as a Practice Teacher (PGCE) in 2012. Jayne holds an MSc in Health Studies (Leadership and Education). She joined the University of Hull’s Faculty of Health Sciences in 2017 as a Lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2022. She is Deputy Head of the Joint Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and Paramedical, Perioperative and Advanced Practice, and Professional Lead for Fitness to Practise for Nursing and Midwifery. Jayne is Programme Lead for the Professional Nurse Advocate Programme and Joint Programme Lead for the MSc Healthcare Leadership (Online) Programme. Jayne is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Institute of Health Visiting, as well as an iHV Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Champion. She contributes to Schwartz Rounds and works across academic levels and sectors, ensuring high standards in teaching, service evaluation, and national policy alignment. |

Research Interests | Jayne’s research interests are: Public health Preconception Care and Alcohol Perinatal maternal mental health Infant mental health Children's Safeguarding Restorative Clinical Supervision Leadership, organisational change and workforce development. Research Grants: 2025-2026: Co- Principal Investigator on NIHR-funded study on reducing alcohol-related developmental disorders (£199,912.37) and providing alcohol advice to women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Jayne is involved in several research projects and is currently working on one primary research project which provides Restorative Supervision to improve the health and wellbeing of HEI staff. Jayne is collaborating with University of Hull colleagues and national practice partners, focussing on a primary research project exploring the factors which affect failure to fail in pre-registration nurse education. Jayne is also experienced in service evaluation and has collaborated with other stakeholders to evaluate various assisted technology packages which supports people living with Dementia to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible to promote independence, health and wellbeing. |
