Project Description
The £ in the Pocket is a student-focused and student-led research project which aims to explore the impact of the pound in the pocket (or lack thereof) on everyday student life at the University of Hull.
The aim of The £ in the Pocket is to provide both an insight and a better understanding of the precarious situation of student life today. Students, in particular those from a disadvantaged background, have to sometimes search for the pound in their pocket, forcing them to choose between going hungry or turning the heating on. These students are marginalised by a ‘poverty premium’ and ostracised because of being unable to afford to socialise and join clubs with wealthier students.
