Project Description

NEYLAND YACHT HAVEN DREDGING : STATISTICAL ANALYSIS 2004-2016

Analysis of benthic and sediment (particle size parameters) data for the Neyland Yacht Haven dredging project.

spatial analysis of benthic community and sediment parameters for 2016; temporal analysis, comparing data from 2016 to those from 2004-2010, specifically assessing within site variability over time; report to include all figures, interpretation and a brief description of the findings.

Statistical analysis, consistent with that carried out in previous years, will include: calculation and graphical presentation/tabulation of standard univariate indices for benthos (S, N, B, H’, J’) and sediment (Median particle size, sorting coefficient, skewness, organic content, bulk sediment classes); spatial and temporal comparison using univariate statistical techniques (e.g. Anova); community analysis using nMDS, SIMPER and ANOSIM/Permanova where appropriate; interpretation of the distribution of species and their abundance in relation to environmental parameters using BIOENV/CCA, as appropriate. It is of note that the success of this analysis is subject to the variability in the data; ecological guild analysis, focusing on the relative proportion of deposit and suspension feeders, as an indication of the potential tolerance of the component species to dredging and disposal activity.
