GPs roles in safeguarding residents of care homes- what do they see and what do they do?
People Involved
Project Description
This research will explore GPs’ experiences of providing health care and support in residential services for older people, with a specific focus on neglect and abuse. It will explore in depth GPs’ experiences of safeguarding, and responding to concerns about resident wellbeing and safety in care homes. It will explore in detail the things that prompt GPs’ concerns, the actions they take when concerned, and the difficulties, ethical dilemmas and barriers they experience when responding to such concerns. It will also explore whether GPs use alternative pathways to raise issues about care quality in residential settings.
The study will be undertaken through focus groups and interviews with GPs based in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
