The research aims to explore the challenges parents face in supporting their children who are experiencing trauma or attachment issues. By exploring the lived experiences of these parents, we will help them understand how these issues impact their children's behaviour, emotions and well-being, which in turn impacts their own well-being.
Working closely with a charity member, who will provide sessions exploring a therapeutic parenting techniques based on Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy (PACE), we will support the parents to develop happier households with less tension and worry. In addition, we will support the parents to develop their communication skills so that they gain a sense of agency in meetings with teachers and social workers.
Once the data has been analysed, the parents will be supported to report the findings to the schools their children attend and to students studying education related degrees at the University of Hull, if they so wish.
The charity member has been working with these parents for a number of years and has a strong and supportive relationship.
