Project Description
This project builds on the cultural policy recommendations of the Risky Cities project and the need to address the growing gap between climate resilience and cultural policy.
Community arts groups and cultural organisations across the city of Hull are increasingly involved in developing socially engaged arts programmes which address climate change. Similarly, funding for arts programmes require applicants to consider climate impacts within their work – as evidenced by the inclusion of ‘Environmental Responsibility’ into Arts Council England’s Investment Principles. However, despite the arts and cultural sectors engagement with climate impacts, it is often left out of discussions which concern climate policy, including the governments National Adaptation Strategy.
The projects ‘discipline hop’ draws upon interdisciplinary expertise from the University of Hull and the Risky Cities project (spanning community engagement, social sciences, and the arts and humanities) alongside expertise from external community arts groups/organisations in order to integrate cultural and climate policy so that it is better able to support resilience building through the arts.
