The PI will utilise a research approach of case study to explore and capture a innovative staff development in critical care at York and Scarborough NHS Foundation Trust. The trust has provided written consent that the IP from this work would be owned by NHSE. The project will consider the way in which ODPs were utilised in critical care both pre and post COVID pandemic and this had/has on patient care and service delivery.
The project will:
•explore the experiences of a range of ODPs in York and support key aspects of critical care from the CODP curriculum. It may also demonstrate how this innovation might be applied to other AHP professions with its associated implications for staff retention and continuous professional development.
•draw out the learning and demonstrate how this may be applied in new contexts for the benefit of patient safety and experience.
•explore the motivation behind developing ODP practice and identify the culture that supported it.
•identify how other NHS organisations can use the analysis of what happened in York to improve and develop practice within their own clinical contexts. Leaning from this educational intervention will align with and support the on-going work to develop a AHP Critical Care Capability Framework.
