Project Description

Role-playing games and simulations can provide fun, safe opportunities to think about complex challenges, especially when it encourages working together and considering different viewpoints.

We have created a board game (Wildlife Manager 2.0) that allows students to experience the complexity of real-world wildlife management scenarios, explore the effectiveness of different management policies (e.g. protected areas versus size-based harvest limits), and practice their interpersonal skills. This project will use iterative focus groups with wildlife experts and students to develop and refine the game, and evaluate whether it provides an effective pedagogy for developing student competencies and attitudes relevant to futures in applied ecology, wildlife management, and environment policy
