Project Description

This project aims to support the monitoring of a series of protected and commercial shark and ray species assessing their distribution, site fidelity and movement on the Yorkshire Coast. The project intends to facilitate a citizen science led programme using a series of volunteer champion taggers who will tag and release shore caught shark and ray species. Anglers and commercial fishermen who recapture animals will then be requested to return details including; location, length, weight parameters as part of an incentivised scheme. This information will be collated and used to assess a range of parameters helping to inform local fisheries management, seasonality and species spatial distribution.
