Project Description
The project aims to build a network of UK universities and a small number of our European counterparts engaged in City/Capital of Culture research. The theme is turning evaluation into policy and the network would engage with key cultural policy makers. The network will consider common or divergent themes emerging from CoC evaluations undertaken in different locations and at different pre and post event stages (i.e. Hull, recent, Derry, 4 years on, Liverpool, 10 years on, Glasgow, 28 years on; Coventry, forthcoming) with the aim of turning the research into collective lessons to inform future thinking and policy for UK Cities of Culture and for cultural policy more generally. The network also aims to identify areas for further in depth research and to build future research collaborations and projects. Ultimately, the network could function as a dispersed policy and evidence centre for the UK City of Culture movement. Although the initial focus would be on the UK, the network would explore the potential benefits of expanding to include a wider partnership of European and other international universities undertaking similar work.
