Abstract

This paper aims to answer the question implicit in the title, namely is e-commerce and e-business a new paradigm or old business in new clothes? We consider whether this topic is truly a new discipline worthy of study and understanding in its own right, or whether it is just a reworking of existing subjects in business and computing. The paper supports our contention that ecommerce represents the latter of viewpoints, and raises new issues to do with how we study business, how we teach it, and the issues that have changed which academically distinguish the discipline and how we research it.
