Abstract
On-line article on the physionotrace ‘grand trait’ of a deputy of the Third Estate catalogued at Versailles as 'Maximilien Robespierre' (Versailles, Inv. Dess. 1068). This portrait has appeared on the covers of Robespierre biographies by Ruth Scurr and Jean-Clément Martin, but it cannot be him. An engraving shows the same sitter as an officer of the Garde Nationale: who is he?
