Abstract
The Marine Strategy Framework Directive was adopted on 17 June 2008 and entered into force on 15 July 2008. It is recognised by the European Community that pressures and demands on marine resources are often excessive and that action must be taken in order to minimise the negative impacts upon the marine environment. The MFSD establishes a framework within which Member States must take action to achieve or maintain good environmental status for the marine environment by 2020.
