Biography Peter is Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Medical Education at Hull York Medical School. He is also the Director of the Centre for Anatomical and Human Sciences , an academic centre that brings together Hull York Medical School staff based at the Universities of Hull and York with expertise in clinical, functional and comparative anatomy and physiology.

Peter joined Hull York Medical School in 2009. He was previously Assistant Lecturer in Anatomy at Makerere University, then Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy and Head of Anatomy at St George's, University of London before moving to Hull York Medical School as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy and HTA designated individual.

Peter is a medically qualified clinical anatomist. He completed his basic medical training at Makerere University and undertook his house jobs at Mulago National Referral Hospital. He earned an M.Sc. in Human Anatomy at Makerere University, worked in General Practice and in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Mulago National Referral Hospital, and taught clinical anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine (now the College of Health Sciences) of Makerere University.

Peter earned his doctorate in education from the University of Sheffield and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. As a classically trained anatomist, Peter has been an active teacher of embryology, histology, gross anatomy, comparative anatomy, radiological anatomy and clinically applied anatomy since 1997.
Research Interests Peter's main professional interests are in medical education and clinical anatomy and cover:
a) learning in the context of medical and health professions education with particular emphasis on anatomy,
b) access and participation in medical and health professions education,
c) medical education policy,
d) the relationship between form and function,
e) the application of anatomy/structure/function to clinical practice and the development of novel surgical procedures.

Peter utilises both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in his research and is an active peer-reviewer for several anatomical and educational journals.
Teaching and Learning Peter is the Chair of the HYMS Board of Studies. The Board oversees all of the academic activities of the medical school and reports to the HYMS Joint Senate Committee of both Universities.

As a clinical anatomist, Peter takes the lead on delivery of clinical anatomy learning opportunities on the undergraduate medical (MBBS) curriculum, and on postgraduate surgical short courses delivered by Hull York Medical School. He also contributes to teaching on M.Sc. Programmes.
