Biography Mark Lorch is a biochemist, writer, and science communicator. He began his research career investigating protein folding and has since explored a wide range of topics in biological chemistry — from the effects of ocean acidification on organisms’ signalling molecules to the detection of micro-pollutants in waterways.

Alongside his research, Mark is dedicated to making science accessible to the widest possible audience. He is the founder and director of Colliderfest, Hull's science and arts festival. And he leads widening participation initiatives across the region. His writing appears regularly in the mainstream press, and he is a frequent contributor to radio and television. Mark has also provided science consultancy for film and game production companies and serves on the Science Advisory Council of the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
