Project Title Determinants of recollective experience in recognition memory
Project Description The thesis investigated the different forms of conscious experience that can accompany recognition memory. The main distinction was between recollection and familiarity, as measured by subjective experiences of 'remembering' and 'knowing'. Factors previously found to enhance overall recognition performance (e.g., self-reference, imagery, enactment) were found to enhance remember but not know responses. These findings confirm the validity of the distinction between recollection and familiarity and highlight the value of using first-person measures of subjective experience in memory research.
