Biography Professor Fiona Matthews is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) and the University of Hull. She started the role in October 2023 having previously been Dean of Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Newcastle. They are responsible for development of research and enterprise across the University, ensuring that development of research excellence is undertaken within an environment that provides a supportive research culture.

Externally they have held a number of roles within UKRI panels, including chair of ESRC Grant Assessment Panel and deputy chair of MRC Skills Development Fellowships. They are currently a member of the UK Future Leadership Scheme Panel.

Research interests include utilising and developing start of the art analysis methods to investigate ageing, healthy life expectancy and autism utlising population based studies and routine data. A primary focus of their work is to investigate inequalities in population health.

Fiona is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
