Dr Katerina Velentza
Biography | Katerina is a maritime archaeologist, currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environmental Humanities at the University of Hull. Katerina's research focuses on the interrelationships between archaeology, heritage, climate change and sustainability. She is the PI of the project ‘Community Waterscapes: Supporting community heritage to explore and shape Hull’s relationship with water’ contributing with archaeological and heritage perspectives in the research, PGT teaching and PGR supervision of the interdisciplinary department. Previously, she was a Kone Foundation Fellow at the University of Helsinki, in Finland, carrying out the project 'Re-imagining the use of traditional watercraft in the Aegean Sea for a sustainable environment and economy' with funding awarded by the Kone Foundation (Koneen Säätiö), and a Senior Researcher of Maritime Archaeology at the Estonian Maritime Museum. She completed a PhD in Archaeology at the Centre of Maritime Archaeology of the University of Southampton (2020), an MA in Maritime Archaeology at the University of Southampton (2015-2016) and a BA in Classical Archaeology at King’s College London (2012-2015). |
