Project Description
The proposed project aims to transform a lab-validated, super-performance, and award-winning dew point air cooling technology into a specialist Data Centre air conditioning unit. This will involve a number of key activities: (1) Survey to the selected data centre and identification of the cooling requirment; (2) Design, simulation and optimisation of the specialist data centre dew point air cooler; (3) Construction of the dew point cooler; (4) Site installaiton and performance testing; and (5) Data collection, dissemination and exploitation. This process will tackle a few industrialisation-related challenges, i.e., sizing, optimisation and integration of the system components, examination of the reliability and adaptability of the coolers to Data Centres, and development of evaluation method of the system performance, and thus, enable upgrading this technology from the current status of TRL6 to TRL8. As a result, the project will bring the energy efficient dew point cooling technology into data centre sector, open up an enormous Data Centres’ cooling market, and thus, create significant money value throughout the UK and across the world. The UK will benefit from the project by achieving significant fossil fuel saving and carbon emission reduction, increased economy, industry competitiveness, and employment opportunity, improved environment and health standard, and enhanced sustainable development, gender equality and social cohesion. The UK industrial partner (i.e., AIRCO and EPS) will benefit by the accelerated air conditioners and data centre cooling business. The UK University partner (i.e., UHULL) will benefit by (1) new/lasting research collaborations and knowledge transfer; (2) improved research/innovation potentials; (3) technology transfer; and (4) increased career development opportunity.
