Project Description
Natural England (NE) wishes to commission a baseline survey of the biota and selected physical attributes of two lagoons (Northcoates and Humberstone Fitties lagoons) that are features of the Humber Estuary SAC. The lagoons are located in the outer Humber Estuary on the south bank.
A substantial evidence gap has been identified, with the most recent surveys of these lagoons being undertaken in 2001 (Seaton, 2001; Worsfold, 2001). The aim of this project is to fill this gap through:
• The acquisition of high quality biological data of suitable resolution to allow key attributes of condition to be assessed according to CSM guidance for the coastal lagoons.
• Using the data collected, the provision of an assessment of change against previously collected data sets and thereby a preliminary assessment of feature condition following CSM Guidance.
As such, this contract entails the design, planning and undertaking of a field survey of the two lagoons to collect data on selected ecological attributes, followed by the analysis and interpretation of the collected data and evidence, also in relation to existing data and information from previous surveys, to assessment any changes that may have occurred as a result of anthropogenic influences. The provision of preliminary advice on the lagoon feature condition is also required, as resulting from the assessment of the selected ecological attributes against their target criteria.
