Exploring the Best Practices in AI Education: Harnessing the Potential of Robotics via the CDIO Framework in Higher Education

People Involved

Dr Nina Dethlefs

Project Description

The project's primary purpose is to address the shortfall in the traditional learning approach to AI education, which has a lot of scope and potential for improvements in terms of developing transferable skills in students to make them capable of solving complex real-world scientific and engineering problems in terms of the applied context. The project objectives can be summarised as:

• To transform traditional delivery/curriculum of some of the AI modules by introducing innovative teaching and learning methodologies. Specifically, by exploiting the hands-on potential of robotics within the Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate (CDIO) framework to foster problem-solving skills. This requires a review of the current curriculum of AI programmes on both sides to identify potential improvements.

• To formulate a knowledge exchange mechanism between the UK and Saudi partners. Specifically, by seamlessly transferring the ongoing best practices in AI education to Saudi universities to enhance the quality of AI education internationally via a compulsory psychomotor component of integrated robotic platform(s) for experimental verification of AI concepts and algorithms.

• To professionally train Saudi Partners through the "Train the Trainer" philosophy, specifically considering the UK Professional Standard Framework (PSF) 2023.
