Scarborough’s underground aquarium, demolished in 1968, was a once-spectacular building that has now been lost to residents and visitors of the town, but remains a haunting example of intangible cultural heritage, surviving through local newspaper articles, existing school projects and oral history (the existing Stories from Scarborough project). This project will tell a story in exciting and innovative ways that harnesses staff research in immersive sound and in the cultural meaning of place. In partnership with Scarborough Museums Trust, an exhibition and mobile geolocated experience will be produced, and schools visits will enable wider access to the aural experience.
