Does music with an environmental message drive a more positive attitude towards pro-environmental behaviours? A pilot study

People Involved

Project Description

This pilot study is intended to explore listeners’ responses to two playlists: one containing songs with environment-related lyrics and the other with quasi-matched songs by the same artist, but with lyrics unrelated to the environment. Participants will listen to these playlists whilst engaging in a basic activity to occupy them (completing a simple online drawing task). On completion of hearing the curated playlist, the participant will be invited to complete a survey on their attitudes towards the environment. We will compare responses from the two groups to ascertain whether or not the responses differ according to the nature of the playlist. The study will act as a pilot study for future work, enabling us to evaluate various aspects of the design.
