Abstract

Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysms (IAAAs) account for 3-10% of all abdominal aortic aneurysms and are characterized by a thickened aneurysmal wall, with extensive fibrosis and adhesions. Ultrasound remains the investigation of choice for diagnosis, screening and surveillance of abdominal aortic aneurysms and practitioners must be aware of the ultrasonographic appearance and clinical features of this distinct group of patients in order that they may be promptly and appropriately identified and managed. In this case report, IAAAs are discussed along with the potential problems in interpreting ultrasound imaging applied to this pathology.
