Project Description

The workshop will contribute in particular to Objective 1. However, it will also make significant contributions to Objectives 2 and 3. The workshop will foster an urgently needed interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers from different disciplines such as political science, law, geography, economics and business studies with the aims of: (1) reviewing systematically the often discipline-specific literatures on climate pioneers and leaders which can act at different governance levels (e.g. local, national, regional, supranational and international but also corporate and civil society/NGO); (2) identifying the main pioneers and leaders (i.e. enablers) of climate policy innovations without neglecting the internal and external barriers faced by these actors; and, (3) identifying research gaps and a research agenda. Great efforts will be made to attract a mix of experienced and young talented researchers. Selected practitioners will also be invited. Workshop outputs will form the basis for usable knowledge on the role of pioneers and leaders in polycentric climate governance.
