UKRI Covid 19 Extension Pot - Global analysis of molecular changes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tissue maintained and treated on microfluidic devices
People Involved
Project Description
The technician employed (0.5 FTE) on the grant started work at the Daisy Laboratories, Castle Hill Hospital, on 2nd March 2020 and was trained on all of the techniques necessary. However, due to the onset of Covid-19 only one tumour sample was obtained prior to the first lockdown at the end of March. The technician was furloughed for 6months and returned to the lab on 1st October 2020. Sample collection has been slow to get restarted due to the reduced availability of samples as the Hospital has had to prioritise dealing with Covid patients, especially during Lockdown 2. As a result of furlough the technician’s employment was extended to 30.06.20.

Global analysis of molecular changes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tissue maintained and treated on microfluidic devices Feb 1, 2020 - Sep 30, 2021
We have developed a microfluidic platform in which small pieces of human tissue from tumours are maintained in an in vivo-like state. These laboratory-maintained samples appear to respond to treatment in the same way as patients do clinically, but th...

The effect of corticosteroids on the release of immune modulating factors from Graves’ disease tissue maintained using microfluidic culture. Jun 1, 2017 - May 31, 2018
Graves’ disease (GD) affects approximately 2% of adult women. Current treatments for GD include anti-thyroid drugs, radioiodine therapy and surgery, of which none tackle the underlying pathogenic process. Immunosuppressive agents are therefore of gro...
