This project aims to bridge the growing gap between Net Zero and Climate Resilience policy.
Climate change is the most urgent societal concern. However, climate policy is typically focused on either climate mitigation (through Net Zero objectives) or climate adaptation (through building resilience). This is apparent in the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission’s Climate change summit, which treated each as separate policy objectives, failing to develop a more holistic policy response.
Therefore, the project will utilise interdisciplinary expertise from the University of Hull (spanning the physical sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities) as well as external climate policy stakeholders, in order to integrate Net Zero and Climate Resilience policy.
The objectives of the project will contribute to NERC’s research strategy by building, promoting and increasing a Productive, Healthy and Resilient environment. The project will:
1) Review UK and regional policy documents to develop a knowledge base of net zero and climate resilient policy in Hull and the Humber region.
2) Conduct a workshop with relevant stakeholders to present project findings and explore policy solutions.
3) Synthesise outputs from 1&2 to generate a collaborative policy roadmap and research proposal.
4) Write a policy note from the projects key findings.
