There is desire for greater protection of Scotland’s coastal marine biodiversity. Our current research in Loch Eriboll (Worktribe: 3728488; ~£31K) has demonstrated this as a good example, representative of the marine biodiversity found along the Scottish coast. Coastal communities in Scotland have expressed a need for greater participation in marine conservation decision making over their local marine areas. However, there is often limited ocean literacy, and few opportunities to develop a shared community vision for a healthy marine environment. This HEIF project seeks to address this community-identified need by exchanging current and new research data to the local community in a series of knowledge exchange activities: (1) Participatory research (2) Village Hall Event (3) Online Platform for Knowledge Exchange. This project will make a difference by providing local coastal communities with knowledge, tools and approaches empowering them to participate in decision making for managing and conserving their local marine environment.
