Project Description

This project aims to test our team’s newly launched ‘Flood Stories for Education and Action’ resources with stakeholders working in other contexts and continents. Our resources were co-developed with the Environment Agency, teachers and young people from across England and comprise: two animated 360 videos, based on data gathered during our team’s previous research with flood-affected children in England; digital extended learning tools; a teacher pack, including lesson plans that support students to progress from learning about flooding to taking local action on flood resilience in their community.
Flood and climate change education is a priority issue right now and we have been invited to speak about our work on education for all at the national Flood & Coast conference. We are running a pilot workshop in June with a range of stakeholders in flood risk in England to begin exploring how our resources can be adapted for different contexts and audiences. This project will upscale our knowledge exchange activity to an international level by identifying how our resources and the methods used to develop them can be adapted across health, education and Disaster Risk Reduction sectors in other countries that face increased risk of flooding as a result of our changing climate. We have strong existing relationships with all partners, including knowledge exchange activities around disaster risk reduction, education and public health.
The work as part of this project will work with these partners to co-create new Flood Stories resources that speak to and draw across different experiences and promote a global approach to living with flood risk. Working with the Living with Water Partnership and the City Water Resilience Framework cities, the project directly supports the aims of our Environment Agency partner to work with academic and other partners to share learning and encourage global innovation on managing flooding (FCERM National Strategy, 2021, 3.5.1; 3.5.2).
