People Involved

Project Description

Natural England, in collaboration with Natural Resources Wales, is seeking external support in the collation of the key evidence relating to twaite shad and allis shad. This collation of key evidence is the first step in the process of defining favourable conservation status.
The requirement is to:
1. Complete a literature search.
2. Carry out a data gathering exercise, identifying the most relevant sources.
3. Draw out the key points demonstrated by the evidence compiled in no. 1 and 2.
4. Produce a report writing up the key data and conclusions, using the report template provided in Annex 3.
5. Provide two compiled GIS data layers (as an ESRI shapefile) of the historical and current data to accompany the report.

The collated evidence should cover:
• Habitat requirements of the two species.
• Historical distribution and populations of the two species and historical extent of supporting habitat in England and Wales.
• Current situation in terms of species occurrence, populations and extent of supporting habitat.
• The pressures and threats currently impacting on or likely to impact on populations of these species in England and Wales in the future.
• Potential distribution and population in England and Wales with currently available habitat and improved habitat availability.
