Biography Michael holds degrees from the Universities of Cambridge, Bath, Manchester, and the London School of Economics. He has a background in Mathematics and Computer Science with a focus on Secondary, Further, and Higher Education, and he has taught both subjects in these settings for many years. He previously worked in industry for NatWest Bank, British Telecoms, and Shell Petroleum before entering the educational sector. His previous positions in higher education include Lecturer in Computer Science at London Metropolitan University and Research Fellow at the University of Manchester.

His research interests include teacher education, particularly the impact of teacher pedagogy on student outcomes. In other words, rather than teaching Mathematics in its pure and abstract form, it is viewed as Critical (Mathematical Thinking) within an interdisciplinary context, which may encourage students to understand Mathematics in everyday context. He has published in this field and co-authored a book on Interdisciplinary Mathematics Education.
