The objective of this study is to assess the juvenile fish populations at ten sites on the River Thames between Marlow and Desborough Island, and at 17 sites in Yorkshire. A total of 20 samples will be collected (two at each site) from the Thames between 30 August and 1 September 2023, and a single sample will be collected from the Yorkshire sites from 14-17 August. Hull International Fisheries Institute (HIFI) carried out the Thames surveys on the behalf of the Environment Agency (EA) between 2007 and 2019, and have also carried out the Yorkshire fry surveys. No budget has been available to fund the work externally since then and a lack relevant training has prevented the surveys from being conducted by EA staff. HIFI was therefore invited to submit costs to train EA personnel to conduct juvenile fish surveys on the River Thames and in Yorkshire. The Thames surveys typically take 3 long days (= 4 standard days), including travel, to complete, so quotes are provided for 1 day and 3 days of training.
