£300,000 donation from a generous local donor helps progress endometriosis urine test towards reality
Jan 30, 2024

Summary Dr Barbara Guinn, Centre for Biomedicine, Hull York Medical School has been awarded a £300,000 grant by a generous local donor to help develop a urine test for endometriosis called EndoTect. The money will help progress this work and encourage other funding bodies to invest in vital research at the University of Hull. We are delighted by the impact this funding will have on our understanding of endometriosis and the development of a non-invasive test that should enable earlier disease detection.
The donor said 'We are delighted to support this valuable piece of work, and very much look forward to working with (Barbara)
over the next 3 years. '

Endometriosis research: University of Hull test could quicken diagnosis

Summary A new test could cut the time it takes to diagnose a condition that causes chronic pain for thousands of women. Endometriosis causes cells similar to the ones in the lining of the womb to develop elsewhere in the body. On average, it takes eight years to get a diagnosis, but a test developed at the University of Hull could cut that to just eight days. One patient taking part in the trial described the potential of the new test as "life-changing".
