Special Issue Editor for Onco - Biomarkers in Cancer
2025

Recognition Type Journal editorial role
Description This Special Issue on biomarkers in cancer focusses on the latest advancements and applications of biomarkers, in all of their forms, that can facilitate the detection, inform best practice treatment, and monitor responses. The scope of this Special Issue includes their discovery, validation, and clinical implementation. We hope to promote the advancement of cancer biomarker research through the dissemination of the latest cancer biomarker research, facilitating the translation of laboratory finding into clinical tools and, ultimately, improved patient outcomes.

Other literature exists on biomarker research across cancer, but sits side-by-side with biology and clinical therapy trials; here, we focus on the key role that cancer biomarkers can play in developing precision medicine and personalised approaches.

We aim to provide a platform for researchers to share their findings and foster collaboration and an outlet for the description of new and emerging biomarkers, including those related to the tumour microenvironment, immune response, and genetic alterations. To examine methodologies and challenges associated with validating biomarker performance and ensuring their reliability, we are investigating the utility of biomarkers in clinical settings and how biomarkers are driving individualised treatment plans and targeted therapy for the differentiation of cancer subtypes. Finally, we want to highlight the latest developments in biomarker detection, analysis, and sample preparation.

We hope that this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive resource for scientists, clinicians, and anyone interested in the latest advancements in cancer biomarkers, with the aim of advancing cancer treatment and improving patient care through targeted personalised treatments.

Endometriosis Research Priority Setting
2025 - 2025

Recognition Type Committee/Steering group role
Description World Endometriosis Society (WES) and World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) will hold the next Endometriosis Research Priority Setting Session (in-person) on May 25 2025 following the World Congress on Endometriosis (WCE2025) in Sydney. The previous iteration of the research priorities (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27368878/) underwent revision at WCE2017.
A literature review has been updated by WES Early Career Ambassadors, based on which the research priorities have been reworded and consolidated to a list of 55 priorities.
Based on my experience/work in endometriosis, I and other experts in the field are rating these 55 priorities and these responses will be collated and used to guide the discussions at the session on May 25 in Sydney.

Invited Speaker - Progress in Vaccines Against Cancer 2024, Prague, Czech Republic
2024 - 2024

Recognition Type Conference presentation
Description The first “Progress in Vaccination against Cancer” took place in Cambridge, UK, in 2001, at a time when many investigators were highly sceptical as to whether any progress could ever be achieved in this endeavour. However, much has changed in the intervening two decades, during which the small intimate PIVAC conferences have been held annually, missing only one year because of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Hence, PIVAC #23 will be taking place in 2024, September 26–28 in Prague, Czech Republic.

It is our pleasure to invite you to present your latest data at this meeting, and to discuss progress in vaccination against cancer in the historic environs of Charles University, one Europe´s oldest.
We are looking forward to another excellent PIVAC meeting in the wonderful city of Prague next September, and sincerely we hope that you will be able to join us for this event.
